Is sunburn good?

The sun is necessary for everyone: flowers, animals, and man. However, how does the sun affect the body and is tan useful for us?

Sunburn itself can not be qualified as a harmful or useful phenomenon for the body. The sun is good for health. Bronze tan in turn is a manifestation of melanin in the skin after some certain time of being under direct rays.

Why is tan useful?

1. Source of vitamin D. When exposed to the sun, the human body synthesizes vitamin "D". This axiom is probably familiar to everyone from early childhood, because that's when many people got acquainted with such a product as cod liver oil, which it was necessary to drink, if this vitamin was not enough. The sun, perhaps, in this respect is much more pleasant.

2. Natural immunostimulant . Lack of sun significantly reduces the body's resistance to various diseases, inhibits physical and mental performance, negatively affects the strength of bone tissue and tooth enamel.

3. Improves blood circulation . The sun enhances blood circulation in the tissues, which contributes to saturation of the skin with oxygen and nutrients, accelerates the metabolism.

4. There is even a special method of treating the body with the sun - heliotherapy . Infrared rays are a thermal effect, resulting in increased vitality.

5. Solar ultraviolet can penetrate the skin to a depth of 1 mm, but this is enough to significantly reduce the viscosity of the blood, prevent atherosclerosis, reduce cholesterol, destroy bacteria and viruses, increase immunity, restore metabolic processes, and enhance tissue respiration . In addition, tan is useful in the synthesis of protein, enzymes and hormones.

What can be harmful to sunburn?

However, on the other hand, in case of exceeding the standards of stay under direct sunlight, it can turn from an assistant to our health into a real danger. Excess ultraviolet radiation can cause irreparable harm. At the same time, sunstroke and burns are far from the worst. The "postponed effects" are much worse, which may well manifest after several years in the form of various serious diseases, such as a malignant tumor.

The World Health Organization has established a norm for daily sun exposure, which is healthy. These are 60 "minimal erythematous doses" (IEA) during the year. From this it follows that under direct rays, we can be at the very beginning for 5-15 minutes, and with time this interval can be brought even up to 50 minutes in one day.

Whether tanning is useful is a controversial issue. Especially acute it rises in hot months, when we strongly exceed the norm of staying in the sun. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the sun does not harm the body, since it can punish violators with very serious diseases.
